Kimberly’s appreciation for fitness began when she started taking dance classes at the age of ten. By high school, she was dancing up to 15 hours a week. Eventually, she went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Dance from the University of Minnesota as well as a degree in Psychology. In 2009, Kimberly moved across the country to pursue a graduate degree in Behavioral Neuroscience at UCLA. She had to give up the hours and hours of dancing but was still doing her best to stay active. Eventually, she became bored and unmotivated by her repetitive gym routine. However, after getting her butt kicked in her first CrossFit class, her passion for fitness was reignited.
Having years of experience teaching dance classes and working as a teaching assistant, sharing her knowledge and passion just came naturally. She decided to get her CrossFit Level 1 certificate in July 2011. Since then she has also earned several other highly respected fitness certifications including a Personal Trainer Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Over the past five years, Kimberly has worked as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at several different gyms across Southern California. You can currently find her teaching at So Cal Boot Camp in San Clemente and Dana Point, CA. Kimberly teaches group fitness classes in addition to offering personal training and nutrition consultation services.
Although Kimberly feels that the best part about being a trainer is the opportunity to develop relationships with people of all types and fitness backgrounds, she is especially passionate about prenatal/postnatal fitness. She is a certified Pre/Postnatal Exercise Specialist and offers specialty personal training services to women before, during, and after pregnancy.
In between juggling the daily demands of being a mama, training others, and fitting in her own workouts, Kimberly shares information and advice through her blog “Mama With A Barbell” She also has an amazing and supportive husband/workout partner who shares her passion for fitness. Pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle has always been a very important part of their relationship. But, staying healthy and setting a good example for her son is Kimberly’s biggest motivation.
